Mr. Ashby is a lawyer who concentrates on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, commercial lending, regulatory and other corporate matters. He has provided a broad range of corporate advisory services for corporations, like NRG, AES, Shell Oil and Arvin Meritor, as well as for emerging companies in various industries ranging from entertainment and hospitality to industrial cleaning and public relations.

After graduating from law school, Mr. Ashby worked for five years as an Associate in the Energy Group of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, he worked on the purchase of $190 million in energy assets, the establishment of an innovative $2 billion revolving construction finance facility named “2001 Deal of the Year” by Project Finance Magazine, and the SEC filing for the sale of a $77 million interest in three nuclear power plants.

His wide-ranging community involvements have included leading fundraising efforts numerous non-profit organizations; serving on the Board of Directors for DC Scores, which helps middle and elementary school students achieve both on the soccer field and in the community; acting as Debate Coach for Lincoln Multicultural Middle School; serving as a trustee for the Lehigh University Alumni Board; advising the Founding Board of the Septima Clarke Public Charter School; and establishing The Breakfast Club, a group devoted to wealth creation and institution building within the African-American community in Washington, D.C.

Speaking and writing opportunities regularly come his way, including presentations on legal aspects of corporate structure and financing to entrepreneurs, industry associations and local business organizations. Recently, he has launched History in Action Toys (www.hiatoys.com), a company committed to developing a broad range of products which are not only fun, but also teach and inspire.

Mr. Ashby earned his J.D. degree from Columbia University School of Law, following an M.S. in Science and Technology Studies from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a B.S. from Lehigh University in Industrial Engineering.

A bridge-builder with a passionate commitment to doing what is right, Sterling Ashby easily motivates others to help implement his visions. Once he adopts a goal, he finds solutions despite the fiercest obstacles. He reads widely, plays golf when he can and has finished a marathon.
