Morgan's upcoming comic, as writer and artist, is titled American Inferno.

American Inferno

American Inferno is the story of a man who must travel through the underworld of the American psyche and Haitian Vodou to solve the mystery of his wife’s murder.

It’s a horror comic.

Horror is a very broad category. I suppose if asked to give a more specific genre it would be something like a supernatural murder-mystery adventure story.

For American Inferno I’m working with an initiated Hougan (a priest of the Haitian religion) who's advising me on how to better represent Vodou religion and magic unbiased by 1940’s Hollywood, racism, and other misrepresentations and stereotypes. I have also spent time as a guest among Brooklyn's wonderful Haitian community.

Here’s an early creature concept sketch.

The Mosquito is a touching and horrific creation myth by a wonderful writer named Franz Henkel. Any shortcomings in the adaptation are purely my responsibility.

These images represent some of my early experiments working to find a flexible painting medium for illustration

I started painting here using Alkyd paints on prepared Bristol board paper. I later found black and white ink to be a speedy alternative.

Someday I may paint again with the classic techinques, but digital tools have since replaced all brushes made with the hair of weasels, and CMYK and RGB have replaced tubes of colored paste.

I was working as a lead concept artist on a sci-fi game at a company called Origin Systems when I negotiated a month off between projects to paint this story.

The story’s main character, Sonja Blue, was created by writer Nancy Collins in her Sunglasses After Dark series of novels.

The story was published as part of the Eisner-nominated anthology, Weird Business, edited by Joe Lansdale and Rick Klaw.

Weird Business was nominated for the 1996 Eisner Award for best anthology and the Rocky Mountain News called it, "Possibly the greatest comic ever." Tall words, I know.
